Domačija Jarc - Vajgen

Jerneja Marko

Vajgen, Štajerska

The Legacy of Daughters

On the historic Vajgen slopes in Jarenina, the Jarc family has been crafting wines that reflect the Styrian terroir for over 150 years. This estate carries a unique legacy: for five generations, the farm has been passed down through the daughters, a tradition that Jerneja, the sixth generation, is proud to continue. While her parents remain the driving force, Jerneja is bringing her enology studies to the cellar, blending traditional wisdom with a modern "less is more" approach.

The family cultivates 7 hectares of vineyards at altitudes between 300 and 360 meters, with vines ranging from 7 to 50 years old. They are particularly renowned for their Modra Frankinja (Blaufränkisch), which they produce in styles ranging from fresh rosé to the complex, barrel-aged "Babji kot" line.

Why we represent Jerneja Marko: t is rare to find someone who, at just 23, is already making such waves in the wine world. Jerneja’s success is a testament to her wit, courage, and character—and we are especially impressed by her perseverance, achieving remarkable results even when doors stay closed. Standing 185 cm tall, she commands a captivating presence, much like her acclaimed Blanc de Blancs.

Jerneja has a brilliant future ahead, and we are proud to support a female winemaker who is not only putting herself on the world wine map but also shining a light on our home region.

Vida & Rastko Tement

Ljutomer-Ormož, Štajerska

The Art of Patience

In the Ljutomer-Ormož region of eastern Slovenia, the Bartol family is rewriting the rules of modern winemaking through the lens of ancient patience. Across 2.5 hectares of clayey sand in Podgorci, three generations work in unison to cultivate a landscape that is as much a sanctuary as it is a vineyard.

The Bartol philosophy is defined by a commitment to "time-consuming" perfection that few in the world would dare to attempt: macerating their wines on the skins for a staggering four to nine years. This radical, globally rare process creates a natural that allows them to bottle their wines entirely without added sulfur. Eschewing pumps and enological aids in favor of gravity and manual labor, the family lets the wine evolve slowly in Slovenian acacia and oak barrels. The result is a collection of wines that are raw, timeless, and profoundly purist -a liquid testament to what happens when a winemaker chooses to wait.

Why we represent Bartol Estate: Whenever we return to our hometown, we have only one destination: LeVino wine bar. Despite Maribor being the capital of Slovenia’s largest wine region, the city once had a surprisingly scarce wine bar scene. Amidst this, Vida Tement had the vision and courage to create a sanctuary for local wine—while her husband, Rastko, has the daring and skill to craft the exceptional wines that fill it.

We are absolute fans of their Muškat Ottonel, a wine we savor every time we are in Maribor. It’s no surprise that Rastko’s creations are now sought after by the finest palates, earning a proud place on the wine lists of Slovenia’s Michelin-starred restaurants.

Alan Peloz

Brje pri Komnu, Kras

FROM MAN TO WINE

Alan Peloz is an exceptional winemaker from Brje in the Slovenian Karst region (Kras). His work transcends mere craft; it is a deep, spiritual philosophy of winemaking driven by a strong connection to nature and higher energy.

Alan works exclusively with natural methods, but what sets him apart is his reliance on the Pendulum, which guides him in finding the energetic balance and the ideal timing in the vineyard.

Why we represent Alan Peloz: His wine, Stella, changed our lives. From the very first tasting, we knew we had to share this exceptional experience with the world. Every time we introduce his wines, we witness a spectrum of emotions and perceptions—from journeys down childhood memory lanes awakened by taste, to the discovery of entirely new sensations on the palate. We reserve his wines for special moments: as a reward for hard work, or as a source of comfort. In times of anxiety, his wine grounds us, guiding us back to our inner voice and sense of purpose. His wine is our pendulum.

Matjaž & Barbara Orel

Avber, Kras

Precision, Purity and Heritage

Matjaž Orel is a young winemaker who manages the traditional Orel family estate in Avber (350–400 m), the highest village in the Karst region. The Orel family acts as the dedicated guardians of the truly indigenous grape varieties of the Karst. Orel’s wines are extremely clean and vinified with uncompromising precision. They are an expression of the winemaker;s clear philosophy and meticulous quality standards.

Why we represent Orel wine cellar: We are huge fans of their Teran, a wine that perfectly captures the soul of the Karst. But it’s not just the wines that make Orel special—this warm-hearted family was among the first to welcome a “crazy Berliner” with nothing but a passion for Kras wines. Matjaž and his wife Barbara treated us with unforgettable kindness, and every bottle we open reflects their devotion, honesty, and mastery. And with their legendary sausages and pršut, you can bet we’ll always keep coming back!

Gašper Čehovin

Zabavlje, Istra

Quietly Exceptional

Hidden in the romantic, untouched hills of Zabavlje in the hinterland of Koper, Gašper Čehovin is the "quiet" rising star of Slovenian Istria. Despite also being a successful tech entrepreneur, Gašper approached winemaking as a self-taught purist, learning the craft through deep friendships with masters like Joško Renčel and years of personal experimentation.

Working just under 2 hectares of high-altitude vineyards (360m) characterized by flysch and marl soil, Gašper operates under the brand name Norbin -an old Istrian dialect word for "mischievousness". Which is kind of a paradox, since Norbin wines are described as noble, graceful, and measured, yet they possess a playful complexity that has already earned him 93 points from Decanter.

Why we represent Norbin wines: Gašper was our final stop at a wine festival, at a moment when we thought we had already tasted everything. We still clearly remember him pouring the very last drops of his Malvazija into our glasses—a wine so elegant, smooth, and viscous that we immediately wanted more. Although we couldn’t buy a bottle that day because everything had already been poured, we made sure to keep his card.

Months later, we visited his home and cellar for an unforgettable introduction to his ongoing experiments, along with generous lessons in the world of wine. We left not only more captivated by his wines but also enriched by his knowledge and guidance. Much of who we are today is owed to him, and we remain deeply grateful—for the lessons, and for the Asja Rosé, which remains our favourite.

Rojac

Uroš Rojac

Gažon, Istra

Master of Ecological Craft

We introduce you to Uroš Rojac a renowned winemaker from Gažon, Slovenian Istria, whose family has cultivated vines there since the 17th century.

Uroš is a pioneer who followed a revolutionary path early on: he was among the first to consistently embrace organic farming and revive archaic grape varieties. He doesn't chase trends; he does his own thing. For Uroš, wine is made in the vineyard. He works with minimal intervention, utilizing densely planted terraces and low yields to achieve the highest quality.

Why we represent Uroš Rojac:

A true legend of ecological winemaking, Uroš Rojac comes from an extraordinary legacy that defines Slovenian Istria. His wines are precise, bold, and uncompromising—pure quality, with no distractions and unwavering consistency year after year.

For us, his wines serve a deeper purpose: they inspire the discovery of indigenous grapes and long-forgotten techniques, helping to preserve Slovenia’s rich wine legacy. Despite his strong international presence, Uroš remains open, grounded and supportive of new and small businesses—a rare mark of true greatness. Bianchera is our favourite: a wine that captures his mastery in its purest form.
